The Sweet Carolina Honey Showcase (Sept 2024)

This 4 course honey-tasting dinner was a very educational and informative fundraiser event! Each course made by the culinary students and staff had North Carolina honey in it…and when I find my menu sheet, I’ll update this and let you know what they were.

While the CCBA didn’t sponsor this event, several members attended and reported it a great success. It was held at the Carteret Community College Culinary Arts Center in downtown Morehead City, NC. Ultimately, the Showcase raised $6000 for the new NC State University Apiary Professorship Endowment in Raleigh, NC.

CCBA Member Johnnie Burgess brought his honey bee observation hive, divinely decorated by his wife, CCBA member Pam Hanson. Some diners were hesitiant to approach (an indoor hive?!) and some felt much safer to view bees in the dining room rather than a bee yard.

Also in attendance were Carteret County Master Gardeners to help distribute free pollinator flower seeds.
